Edition Notes
My wife found this artifact and I'm pleased, intrigued, and at times amused and astounded. Much of this is still relevant today! (It's a bike, what can I say?)
"Much more intriguing ... are the ones not yet built, the bikes of the future. If some scientists are right, the kinds of bikes people will be riding in the 21st century (!) won't be made of metal but of some super tough plastic. They will have no chain but will be riven by a small internal drive shaft the way most cars and some motorcycles are driven today. They will weigh half as much as bikes do today and will never get flat tires because each tire will have a special chemical inside that automatically seals up any puncture. You'll also be able to fold them up and carry them around in a bag no bigger than a medium-sized rucksack."
When I see the collapsible bikes of tiday and then read this... "prediction" I can't help but wonder how much insight the authors had. At any rate, it seems any edition or incarnation of this book is well worth a read since, despite the predictions, much of it still holds relevant today.
